"Deviant" by Electrode Films
On Friday June 8, 2005, the Electrode crew met in downtown Cincinnati
to receive their assignment for this year's 48 Hour Film Project.
If you're unfamiliar with the 48HFP, it's basically a national contest
for independent filmmakers. All the groups are assigned the same
character, prop, a line of dialogue, and each group picks a film
genre out of a hat. After you've been assigned, the clock starts,
and you have exactly 48 hours to script, shoot, and edit a 4-7 minute
short film using the required elements.
Here were our assignments:
Character: L. Perkins, Traffic Safety Researcher
Prop: Gift Wrapped Package
Dialogue: "I've never been there"
Our Genre: Mystery
So, the race began at 7pm Friday night. Here's some pics of the
process.

Jesse and I finished the script at 12:14AM (late friday night),
after the help of some cell phone calls, duct tape, sharpies, a
note pad, and the drink of choice, Bacardi and Coke.
We started shooting on Saturday morning at 10:00am, and finished
around 5pm. Everything was shot with two cameras, and we had 2 hours
of solid footage to edit down into 7 minutes.
Editing began Saturday night about 6pm, and ended at 2:24am Sunday.
At this point, we retired to the patio outside to enjoy a celebratory
cigar.
Sunday, refining edits and music was added from 9-12, and the project
was put onto a DVD at 12:11pm. So in all actuality, the entire project
was finished in 24 hours, if you add it all up, which is pretty
damn impressive. The finished product and paperwork was delivered
to our meeting point at 6pm, one hour before the deadline. We were
the 2nd ones finished.
Tuesday, July 12 at 4:45pm, our movie had it's first premiere at
the AMC 20 theatre in Newport, KY. Our movie was screened to an
audience of over 200 people, on a 30' x 55' movie screen, which
was amazing. Check out the pics.

It was probably the most gut-wrenching and surreal
moment all of us have ever had in our lives. Hearing the applause
for our project was the most satisfying feeling. After, Jesse and
Imet up with Tim Wood, our lead character outside for a picture.

It was definitely an experience participating in
the whole project!
Here's the finished movie. It's 7 minutes long and
in MP4 format.
VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED DUE TO STRONG ADULT LANGUAGE.
